Let’s get a little sciencey here! Remember learning about your immune system or your endocrine system? Well the endocannabinoid system (ECS) is another built-in signaling system found in your body. Our body has these hard-working neurotransmitters called CB receptors that are triggered by endocannabinoids (endo=naturally produced within your body). These cannabinoids are always looking for their friends, the CB receptors, to bind with. Kind of like a key looking for its right lock. The endocannabinoids are constantly swiping right until they are matched with their right receptor. Our body has a ton of these cannabinoid receptors and they both work together to create a homeostasis/balance in the body whenever needed. If we didn’t have the ECS system and smoked marijuana for example, we wouldn’t get high, because we wouldn’t have any THC receptors. Phytocannabinoids (phyto=made from plants), like CBD and CBG, are the cannabinoids found in hemp, mainly concentrated in hemp flower. They can be interchanged with the natural endocannabinoids found in our bodies and can communicate with the CB receptors in our bodies when your own “endos” are running low.
